On September 29, 2013, four students — Brian Boda ’14 (Political Science major), Sara Kerrigan ’14 (Political Science major), Katie Lowery ’14 (Political Science major), and Emily Vontsolos ’15 (Economics major) along with Dr. Cleve Fraser, Department of Political Science, and Dr. Nathan Cook, Department of Economics, departed for an experience of a lifetime in Bali, Indonesia, where they served as citizen diplomats to the APEC CEO Summit.

The APEC CEO Summit is the premier business event in the Asia Pacific. This year’s theme: ‘Towards Resilience and Growth: Reshaping Priorities for Global Economy’ provided enriching discussion by policy makers, business leaders, and innovative thinkers on securing inclusive sustainable growth, shared development and common prosperity.

As in past years the APEC CEO Summit welcomed APEC Leaders including: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia; Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada; President Sebastián Piñera of Chile; President Xi Jinping of China; Prime Minister Shinzō Abe of Japan; President Park Geun-hye of South Korea; Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia; President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico; Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand; President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines; President Vladimir Putin of Russia; Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore; Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra of Thailand, and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
