The second annual Upstate Diversity Leadership Awards Dinner, hosted by the Anderson Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce and the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce, took place at the Anderson Civic Center, Anderson, SC on May 9, 2006. It was attended by over 550 members of the community.

Joseph B. Anderson, Jr. was the guest speaker at this year’s award dinner. Anderson’s background includes thirteen years in the military followed by a business career with General Motors (1979-1992), Composite Energy Management Systems, Inc. (1992-1994), and Chivas Products Limited (1994-2002). Currently, he serves as Chairman & CEO of TAG Holdings, LLC, which supports a variety of industries including automotive, consumer products and recreational vehicles. Awards were presented to three individuals and three organizations for their outstanding achievement in promoting diversity in the Upstate.

  • Outstanding High School Student: Michael Youssef, Southside High School (award sponsored by Bi-Lo, LLC)
  • Outstanding College Student: Elvia Pacheco, USC Upstate (award sponsored by Michelin North America)
  • Outstanding Non-Profit Organization: Greenville Literacy Association (award sponsored by the BMW Manufacturing Co.)
  • Outstanding Business: Bi-Lo, LLC (award sponsored by the University of South Carolina Upstate)
  • Outstanding Contribution to International Diversity: Michelin North America, Inc. (award sponsored by Furman University)
