SAFY – Specialized Alternative for Families of Youth

Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) is a national non-profit organization that provides a continuum of services for children and youth in child welfare and juvenile justice system. Specifically, it assists foster children with a range of services to create an environment that positively impacts their lives and the lives of their families and their communities.   SAFY currently has three chapters in South Carolina, including one in the upstate. The group project was to assist the upstate chapter in creating an annual event that further exposes these children to different members of the community and provide a half-day training session to assist them in making the inevitable transition from child to young adult. The classes provided focus on basics life skills, including: financial management, internet safety, interviewing, and creating healthily eating and exercise habits.
