Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s belief that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” the Teen Achievers Champions are partnering with the YMCA of Greenville to help enhance and grow its Teen Achievers Program, which has Mr. Mandela’s belief at the core of its mission. More specifically, the YMCA Teen Achievers Program is a free program with a proven track record of helping participants stay in school by:

  • Giving them the tools and resources they need to effectively transition from middle school to high school to post- secondary education
  • Cultivating deep connections between participants and their high schools
  • Working with participants to build long term plans that extend beyond high school graduation

The project will enhance and grow the already successful Teen Achievers Program by creating a sustainable annual “Greenville YMCA Teen Achievers Kick-Off Event” that both delivers a sustainable source of funding for the program (enabling its continuity) and gets the incoming participants excited about the opportunity in front of them (inspiring them to spread the word to their friends and grow the number of participants). Fundraising will occur through the combination of Title and Table corporate sponsorships. Excitement generation will come through an event agenda that includes unique travel to/ from the event, a red carpet walk, premium venue/ dining experience, fun entertainment (photo booth, raffle, games), and a keynote speaker—all designed to teach the participants about social and professional skills in a fun way. With this formula, the project will be able to increase funding and participation in the program for years to come.
