Kindergarten College takes kindergartners from a low-income neighborhood school to college for a day. A growing body of research shows the benefits of instilling “college culture” values at young ages, and Kindergarten College’s goal is to plant seeds of expectations at this crucial growth stage.

Working with Sanders-Clyde Elementary and the College of Charleston, our group will facilitate the transportation of kindergarten classes to the college. We’ll coordinate visits to a dormitory and the college’s science building, home to a dinosaur museum. We’ll work with College of Charleston education students to accompany students to a dining hall for lunch. We’ll give them college T-shirts and other materials to take home and remind them of “their day at college.”

We’ll send a message that college is for them, not others.
