Eleraffes group members examined diversity in Greenville County, by focusing on the Senior Choice Program at the Northwest Crescent Center. This location was chosen because of the assortment of activities it provides for all age groups in the community. The Eleraffes conducted interviews with program directors and participants of the Senior Choice program in order to learn more about the program and its demographics. From their interviews, group members found that activities such as group lunches, cultural events, and transportation contributed to the likelihood that participants would return each week for meetings. One of the main concerns facing the Senior Choice Program has been the retention of participants. The interviews also showed that racial tension was not a deterrent in the recruitment process of potential participants, and that because the budget is tight, efforts need to be put into place to maintain contact with participants who do not return to the program, so as to raise retention levels and bring in new members.
