Connecting, Food and Fun at OneSouthCarolina

OneSouthCarolina is about connecting DLI alumni – an effort grounded in the belief that productive networks are the necessary foundation for shared work and significant change. In addition to structured opportunities to delve into issues in large and small group sessions, OneSouthCarolina offered many social gatherings that forged and deepened relationships among classmates and alumni from around the state.

Alumni reunited with your colleagues at Friday’s welcome reception that offered farm-to-table appetizers and Southern-recipe cocktails, followed by dinner with diverse fellow alumni from across the state. On Saturday, they enjoyed a lunch menu drawn from South Carolina’s rice tradition, and that evening, shucked oysters from celebrated Lowcountry oysterman Ben Moise and savored Rodney Scott’s barbeque from Hemingway—barbeque so famous he posts a sign on his door each day admonishing early arrivers to “respect the process” and wait until they are open. After this Southern food extravaganza, all enjoyed the live sounds of legendary Pelzer bluesman Mac Arnold and his band Plate Full O’ Blues.

Golfers arrived Friday morning to join DLI senior associate Benny Walker on the Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto Dunes, which Golfweek magazine readers consider one of the best courses in the southeast.
