New Tech Annual Conference (NTAC)

NTAC 2016: “Making it Personal: Connecting the School and the Student”
Orlando, July 11-14

South Carolina New Tech Network schools traveled to Orlando, Florida, for NTAC 2016, for inspiration from keynote presenter, Tom Vander Ark, and where they proved themselves to be a model nationwide. Facilitators from Florence School District 3 presented three sessions:

  • “The Art of Compromise” – Panther New Tech at Lake City High School, Florence 3
  • “Scaffolding: How to Build Solid Benchmarks” – Ronald E. McNair Middle School, Florence 3
  • “Very Superstitious” – Panther New Tech at Lake City High School, Florence 3

The Riley Institute facilitated what we hope will be the second annual gathering of all South Carolina New Tech schools. New Tech Network president and CEO Lydia Dobyns addressed the group, and i3 project coordinator Courtenay Nantz expressed her excitement for the growth of the New Tech model in the state and its impact on student achievement and future success. District and school leaders and facilitator-teachers spent time getting to know each other better for future collaboration. Read more on this gathering and the power of partnerships in this blog post by Dr. Kristin Cuilla: Don’t Blink: A Nation Proud of Its Schools is Closer Than You Think. Dr. Cuilla is Senior Director of Partnerships and Communications at New Tech Network, and during the first four years of the i3 grant was Director of New School Development. The South Carolina New Tech Network schools continue to find new ways to partner and grow, and the future is bright for South Carolina students.
