1 – 1:45 pm: Students arrive and check into dorms

2 – 2:15 pm: (Dorms) Welcome reception for participants and parents

2:30 – 3:30 pm: (JH) Ice Breakers, EPL Counselors and staff

3:30 – 5 pm: (JH) Strengths Quest, Kim Keefer, Director of Shucker Center for Leadership Development

5:30 pm: Dinner with Admissions

7 pm: (dorms) Icebreaker activities and FUN!

9 a.m. – 10:15 am: (JH rear lobby) Poverty Studies, Dr. Amy Jonason, Furman Professor of Sociology

10:20 am: (JH) Group photo with Secretary Richard W. Riley

10:30 – 11:45 am: (JH rear lobby) A Conversation with Secretary Richard W. Riley

12:00 – 2 pm: (Hartness Pavilion) Lunch and social etiquette, Shannon Wilkerson Wilson

2:30 – 4 pm: (JH) Real News vs. Fake News, Dr. Danielle Vinson, Furman Professor of Politics and International Affairs

4 – 5:30 pm: (JH) EPL Alumni Words of Wisdom: EPL alumni present their projects and break into groups for brainstorming

5:45 pm: (DH) Dinner

8 pm: (Dorms) Activities with Counselors


Tuesday, June 19

7:30 – 8:15 am: (Dining Hall): Breakfast

8:15 am: – Meet vans in Admissions Parking Lot

8:30 – 11:30 am: Frazee Dream Center

12 pm: Lunch at Tommy’s Country Ham House

1 – 2:30 pm: (JH) ISSUE FOCUS:  Global Poverty and Evidence Based Leadership, Dr. Erik Ching, Professor of History

3 – 4:30 pm: (JH) Diversity in Poetry, Glenis Redmond, Poet in Residence at Peace Center

5:15 pm: Walk back to dorms, get bathing suits, vans will pick up in front of dorms

5:30 – 7:30 pm: Swimming and cookout at White Oaks
 

Wednesday, June 20

7 – 8:30 am: Breakfast, DH

8:45 am: Meet vans in Admissions parking lot to drive to Spartanburg

9:30 – 12:30 am: Serve at Spartanburg Soup Kitchen

1 pm: Lunch in Spartanburg

1:30 – 5 pm: Compassionate Schools Training, Dr. Jennifer S. Parker, Professor of Psychology at the Center for Child Advocacy Studies

2:15 – 5:30 pm: (JH 101) Honing Your Presentation and Public Speaking Skills, Dr. Cynthia King, Furman Professor of Communications Studies

Friday, June 22

9:15 – 10:00 am: (JH) Checkout of rooms and wrap-up/evaluation,

10:30 – 12:30 pm: (JH) Lessons from Charleston, Dr. Liz Smith, Professor of Political Science at Furman University 

12:30 – 1 pm: (JH) Lunch and final thoughts

1 – 3 pm: Depart campus and begin your project!!!
