What We Do

At the Global Visitors Center, we design professional programs and cultural activities for foreign leaders, specialists, and scholars who are participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.

Established in 2011, our program connects international visitors with a thriving American city that has been revitalized through cooperation between city officials and the private sector. Once regarded as the “Textile Center of the World,” Greenville, South Carolina has overcome the textile industry’s downturn to transform itself into an attractive destination for Fortune 500 companies like BMW, 3M, Honeywell and Michelin North America. By coordinating meetings and appointments between our international visitors and their industry counterparts, we help emerging global leaders cultivate a relationship with Greenville’s business and community leaders.

As ambassadors to Greenville, we also provide our visitors with a taste of Southern hospitality. Our citizen diplomats invite foreign leaders into their homes, and our staff provides personalized tours of upstate South Carolina, from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to Greenville’s thriving downtown. By creating one-on-one interactions between Greenville’s citizens and the next generation of global leaders, we are enhancing the global community.
