Beginning in June 2018, South Carolina United was expanded to include all incoming Duke, Lay, and Townes scholarship recipients as well as the Hollingsworth scholarship recipients. This broadened opportunity, named Advantage Scholars, brings together scholars from across the United States, and may include international students.

The students made a trip to Phillis Wheatley Community Center. Phillis Wheatley provides comprehensive quality programs in life-long learning, child development and family support. The students got a glimpse of the impact the center's summer program has on children from 5-12.
This prayer is one of the first things seen as you enter the center. The Children's Defense Fund provides the funding for the Center's summer program, Freedom School.

Kevin Quigley and Bill Berg, VP of Enrollment (on his left), hosted the dinner that followed. The topic of discussion at the dinner was, "If you had a million dollars to give away, what would you do with it?" The students shared ideas on using it for education, sustainability, conserving water, and many more.
