Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development

Greenville has grown tremendously in the past 30 years, but the community hasn’t sacrificed sustainability for growth. Our government and a number of public and private organizations work together to find sustainable solutions to development issues.

Shi Center for Sustainability

The Shi Center at Furman University has helped develop a number of public-private partnerships that work on sustainability issues in the Upstate. Together, our community has developed a sustainability master plan, created a trail system that can be used for bikers, reached out to underserved communities with home weatherization projects, and more.

City of Greenville

The city and county are part of some unique public-private sector partnerships that have worked together on urban planning and development projects like the Swamp Rabbit Trail and the city’s Green Ribbon Advisory Committee to promote sustainability in the community.

Upstate Forever

This non-profit promotes economically, socially, and environmentally sound growth in the upstate by supporting land trust projects, clean water and air, and sustainable communities.
