Arresting Hunger is a collaborative effort between Union County Schools and local law enforcement agencies to provide backpacks of food for identified middle school students so that they will be fed on weekends. The team has reached out to local businesses, industries, and faith-based partners to help initiate, grow, and sustain the project through both monetary contributions and donations of specific food items. Student service organizations at Union County High School will pack the bags each week, and a member of local law enforcement will pick them up and deliver them to middle of schools. In the team’s area, elementary students already receive the weekend food backpacks from local churches, and high school students either are able to hold jobs or are assisted through school athletics or other organizations. Through the generous gifts of the project partners, the Arresting Hunger team seeks to provide this basic need for middle school students.
