Bridge Builders (Bridges to a Brighter Future)

Bridge Builders will serve as a catalyst and initially develop the program components to create a mentoring Diversity Leadership Initiative (DLI) program. DLI graduates will volunteer to serve as mentors to the Bridges to a Brighter Future program graduates in their junior and senior years of college. Mentors will be paired with students based on their professional career/experience and the student’s major and intended or desired career.

ValueD LIves

Wanting to recognize outstanding schools in the Upstate region meeting central qualities of diversity, VALUED LIVES group members have established “The William ‘Bill’ T. Wylie VALUED LIves Award for School Excellence in Diversity” for the winning school that exhibited these qualities:

The Talented Tenth

Recognizing an under-representation of minorities in South Carolina’s health care field, The Talented Tenth established an advisory council of experts to advise and assist in the establishment of diversity and inclusion agendas for the emerging USC School of Medicine-Greenville.

Bill's Walkabouts

“Where would you go if you were homeless tonight?”

Each night in Upstate South Carolina there are hundreds of individuals and families that have no place to call home. Bill’s Walkabouts partnered with the Upstate Homeless Coalition (UHC) to present an evening program to highlight the issues of homelessness in the Upstate.

Kicks for Kids

Kicks for Kids group members are working to increase minority participation in youth soccer in Greenville County. On Martin Luther King Day 2011, group members will bring children to the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy to participate in a clinic led by area college men’s and women’s soccer coaches. Group members will also carry out a second event in June 2011, which will also open the new Kroc Center field in downtown Greenville.
