Anton Gunn, regional director of the Office of Intergovernmental External Affairs (IEA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, addressed healthcare reform on Tuesday, January 17

His talk, “Healthcare Reform and What it Means for Us,” centered around the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), in particular, the significance of the act for college students and the greater Greenville community and beyond. Gunn’s remarks was followed by a panel discussion with Furman professors Jessica Hennessey (Economics) and Kristy Maher (Sociology) and moderated by Glen Halva-Neubauer (Political Science).

Gunn previously represented District 79 in the South Carolina House of Representatives and served on the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee. He was a community relations associate for the Alliance for South Carolina's Children, working with community based organizations across the state on Medicaid expansion and the Children's Health Insurance Program. In 2007, he received the Families USA Consumer Health Care Advocate of the Year award. Gunn received a bachelor’s and a master’s in social work from the University of South Carolina.
